The part of the farming sector has been declining for several years whereas industry and services have been increasing their importance. Unlike the industry sector, public authorities are still in control of the primary sector. The farming sector depends on State subsidies.
The vegetables and flowers market are protected. Efforts were made to move the production of lemon from the centre of Israel to the South, in order to liberalize markets and systems related to exports.
