The agricultural production has more than fourfolded over the last twenty years, with an annual growth rate of 12.6%. The United Arab Emirates' Union owns 21,194 farms and the agricultural development is due to very generous subsidies. If the petroleum is abundant, the water is rare. There are more than 35 dams which supply with 70 millions m3 of water per year and purification factories which produce 475 millions m3 of water per year.
