Russia’s economic recovery is viewed with skepticism by many observers and investors, who do not believe that the positive effects of high energy prices and a devalued ruble can on their own ensure stable longer-term development. There is a lot the Putin Administration needs to do – particularly in reforming corporate governance and the tax and legal systems – if Russia is to secure the foreign investment it needs and wants. What are the chances of Putin delivering? What are the main challenges facing the economy of post-Yeltsin Russia? Alfa Bank’s top management will offer their forecasts and insights.

Alfa not only survived the 1998 crisis but also emerged as Russia’s preeminent bank. Having managed Alfa Bank through the turbulent events of the last few years, our guests are ideally placed to provide an insider opinion on the status of the Russian banking sector and the country’s finances in general.

This event is an informal business discussion with international media groups, U.S. and foreign policy makers, and senior level executives from companies active or interested in Russia. Participation fee: $50. Please register at your earliest convenience as seating is limited. If you have any questions please contact Arrun Kapoor, Eurasia Group at 212-366-9560 or Val Kogan, Pennsylvania-Russia Business Council at 215-963-7079.
