Boris Vyacheslavovich Gryzlov

Boris Vyacheslavovich Gryzlov was born December 15th, 1950, in the city of Vladivostok. He is a graduate of the Leningrad Electro-technical Institute of Communications, with a specialization in radio engineering.

Immediately after college, Mr. Gryzlov went to work at the Research Center for Powerful Radio Communications and specialized in cosmic and air space communications. In 1977, he joined Electronic Device, a Leningrad Production Company. He remained in the company over 20 years, as leading designer and eventually as director of one of its largest units.

Between 1996 and 1999, Mr. Gryzlov worked in the field of higher education. He set up such entities as the Institute for Executive Leadership Training Programs and Central Institute for Employees of Municipal Service. He was also head of the Training and Methodological Center for New Educational Techniques, set up under the auspices of the Baltic State Technical University. In 1999, Mr. Gryzlov became head of the Regional Development Foundation for Business Cooperation at the interregional level.

Mr. Gryzlov became involved in politics in the mid 1980s as an elected trade union leader. In October 1999, he became head of the St. Petersburg section of the interregional Unity Movement running for seats in the State Duma. Unity won in the northern capital, with Mr. Gryzlov topping the list of Unity candidates. Mr. Gryzlov was subsequently elected the head of the party.
