Hello International Traders!

John McDonnell here with four more sites to help you achieve success in 2008!

Colombia has an economy worth looking at, and I've got a useful site in this issue to help you do just that. Also, wait till you see the site I found that compares the GDP of U.S. States to countries worldwide! Do you want to find out facts about Asian countries? I have a site that will help you do it in a flash. Finally, you'll become a search expert when you finish reading the site I found about Google!

And don't forget -- if you'd like more information about international trade, go to FITA's Really Useful Links ( http://fita.org/webindex ), which has a link library of more than 8,000 sites related to international trade.

COLOMBIA
Our Featured Country

Colombia has huge oil reserves, a stable economy, a coastline on both the Pacific and Caribbean oceans, and it's one of the world's top 60 importers and exporters. If this sounds like a country you'd like to research for trade opportunities, a good site to visit is Colombia Trade News ( http://www.coltrade.org ). Although this site has a lot to do with the U.S.-Colombia Trade Promotion Agreement, there is useful information here no matter what country you're from. You'll find the latest trade news, economic data, tips on doing business in Colombia, information about the trade promotion agreement, and much more. For links to Colombian trade directories, customs brokers, and government trade promotion agencies, click on "FAQs" at the top of the page.

You'll also find plenty of good research at the Colombia Mini Portal ( http://fita.org/countries/colombia.html ), a feature of the FITA Web site. The Colombia Mini Portal has an overview of the country, with facts about the language, currency, climate, etc., plus more specific information about the economy, markets, taxes, labor market indicators, and tips on doing business in Colombia.

Click on "Useful Links" and you'll find a variety of sources for market research, trade leads, business directories, logistics, government contacts, travel, financing, and lots more.

The Colombia Mini Portal is one of many research gateways at the FITA site. To find Mini Portals for other regions or countries, just click on "Country Profiles" from within a Mini Portal, or at the FITA home page ( http://www.fita.org ).

The Colombian American Chamber of Commerce and the Colombian American Association are FITA member associations. Their website offers more resources about doing business with Colombia. And click here to search the FITA Member Directory for links to FITA member associations' websites.

A MAP WITH U.S. STATE GDPs COMPARED TO COUNTRIES
A Unique Perspective

I've been writing profiles of countries around the world for years in this newsletter, but U.S. States Renamed For Countries With Similar GDPs ( http://strangemaps.wordpress.com/2007/06/10/131-us-states-renamed-for-countries-with-similar-gdps/ ) makes me think I should start looking in my own backyard. This site has a map of the U.S. that illustrates clearly the economic power of U.S. States by comparing them to countries with similar Gross Domestic Products. It's interesting to see that Michigan and Argentina have similar GDPs, as well as Texas and Canada. There are some surprises on this map, and I guarantee it will make you look at the world differently. If you scroll down the page you'll see the actual statistics for each comparison. By the way, this page is part of the Strange Maps ( http://strangemaps.wordpress.com ) site, which has interesting and creative uses for maps on the Web.
