Hello International Traders!

John McDonnell here, with more sites to help your international sales.

Belgium is a small country with big opportunities for trade, and I have a site in this issue that will help you learn more about the Belgian market. Also, I found a site with hundreds of Asia-Pacific trade agreements you can download. If you're looking for a shipping expert, I have a site that will help you find one. Finally, I have a site that will give you scads of data about hundreds of U.S. cities.

And don't forget -- if you'd like more information about international trade, go to FITA's Really Useful Links ( http://fita.org/webindex ), which has a link library of more than 8,000 sites related to international trade.

BELGIUM
Our Featured Country

Among countries of the world Belgium is 137th in land area, but it ranks 16th in both imports and exports. That tells you one thing: that this tiny country is a big player in the arena of world trade. With the dollar at historic lows in relation to the euro, this may be a good time for U.S. companies to research trade opportunities with Belgium. A good site to check out is the Belgian Foreign Trade Agency ( http://www.abh-ace.org ). Click on your language of choice, and then you can sample the loads of information here. You'll find news, statistics, reports, government contacts, economic facts & figures, investment information, and much more. You'll find some particularly useful information if you click on "Country Portal" under "Economic Figures and Facts". The Country Portal page has a wealth of useful links about every country in the world.

You'll also find plenty of good research at the Belgium Mini Portal ( http://fita.org/countries/belgium.html ), a feature of the FITA Web site. The Belgium Mini Portal has an overview of the country, with facts about the language, currency, climate, etc., plus more specific information about the economy, markets, taxes, labor market indicators, and tips on doing business in Belgium.

Click on "Useful Links" and you'll find a variety of sources for market research, trade leads, business directories, logistics, government contacts, travel, financing, and lots more.

The Belgium Mini Portal is one of many research gateways at the FITA site. To find Mini Portals for other regions or countries, just click on "Country Profiles" from within a Mini Portal, or at the FITA home page ( http://www.fita.org ).

The Belgian American Society of New England is a FITA member association. Their site offers more resources about doing business with New Zealand. And click here to search the FITA Member Directory for links to FITA member associations' websites.

GET THE DETAILS ABOUT ASIA-PACIFIC TRADE & INVESTMENT AGREEMENTS
Asia-Pacific Trade Agreements

The last decade has seen many countries sign trade agreements, as a way of boosting trade between various nations. A good place to get the details on some of these trade agreements is the Asia-Pacific Trade & Investment Agreements Database ( http://www.unescap.org/tid/aptiad/ ) at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific. This site has a database of more than 100 regional and bilateral trade agreements. In addition, you can search a database of "Interactive Trade Indicators" which has some useful statistics about trade between countries in the Asia-Pacific region. There's also a glossary with definitions of trade terms.

SOLVE YOUR BIGGEST SOURCING PROBLEMS
https://www.globalsources.com/sub/frm_subscribe.php3?pi_sys_id=magol&pi_proj=10AVPU&dmsource=10AVPU

Sourcing from China can be an unnerving proposition. On the one hand, buyers can’t afford to hang back and watch as their competition takes advantage of great products at great prices. On the other hand, they often don’t make a move because they’re worried about potential risks involved. We’ve all heard stories of sourcing deals gone sour with China suppliers. Common complaints include: “It wasn’t a real company.” “They cashed the cheque but didn’t ship the items.” “The product looked terrific, but it fell apart in my hands.” Buyers need help dealing with problems like these. They’ll get it from Global Sources’ magazines. A range of industry-specific titles lets readers find new products from quality suppliers in China and across Asia. Every featured supplier is “verified” - visited by Global Sources at least 3 times to verify that it is a real, export-ready company. Sample copies of Global Sources magazines are available free to qualified buyers. Quantities are limited, so buyers should claim their complimentary copy now. For 37 years, Global Sources has helped buyers make confident China sourcing decisions. Learn all about all the company’s products and services at www.globalsources.com.

SUCCESSFUL SHIPPING WITH A-Z FREIGHT GATEWAY
Worldwide Logistics Information

I first profiled A-Z Freight Gateway ( http://www.azfreight.com ) years ago, but it's worth another look because the site has continued to improve. It has expanded to include links to hundreds of companies in the transportation and logistics field. There are airlines, cargo companies, freight forwarders, package delivery services, couriers, integrators, express operators, brokers, airports, and many more listings. You can do a search right on the home page for, say, cargo handling agents in a specific country. You can also do a company name search, a Track & Trace search, find international telephone country codes, and other useful searches. If you ship a lot for your business, you should bookmark this site.

CITY-DATA.COM GIVES YOU THE FACTS ABOUT U.S. CITIES
US Demographics

I just love City-Data.com ( http://www.city-data.com ). This site has oodles of information about U.S. cities, and once you get finished reading a profile of a city, you'll know it better than your own hometown. That's because there's information about the residents' income, education, ancestry, employment, and political affiliation, plus house prices, crime statistics, weather, hospitals, schools, libraries, types of businesses, maps -- even satellite pictures. There are also Top 100 lists, which rank U.S. cities in categories like Highest Median Household Income, Newest Houses, Shortest Commuting Times, Largest Percentage of Females, etc. Any company or individual looking to research a U.S. city should start here.
