Hello International Traders!

John McDonnell with more sites to help your international sales.

Hong Kong's economy is a model of capitalism, and it barely broke stride through two recessions in the last 15 years. I have a site in this issue with enough Hong Kong links to keep you busy for days. Also, if you need an international legal expert, or you want to do legal research, I have a site with dozens of links. Want to read the text of a world trade agreement? I have a site with a database of hundreds of trade agreements. Finally, if you like saving money you'll love the site I found that notifies you when prices fall on your favorite products.

And don't forget -- if you'd like more information about international trade, go to FITA's Really Useful Links ( http://fita.org/webindex ), which has a link library of more than 8,000 sites related to international trade.

HONG KONG
Our Featured Country

Hong Kong is so small that it wouldn't even make a list of the top 20 most populous cities in the world, but yet its economy is 13th among countries of the world for imports and 15th for exports. It has maintained five percent growth in GDP since 1989, in spite of two recessions in Asia during that time. If this sounds like a country you'd want to do business with, visit Hong Kong Links ( http://globaledge.msu.edu/countryInsights/links.asp?countryID=19®ionID=3 ), which is a page at globalEDGE™, from Michigan State University. Here you'll find links to more than 20 portals with information about Hong Kong. You'll find statistics, reports, calendars of trade events, profiles, business directories, trade leads, news, search engines, customs regulations, business contacts, government agencies, and much more. Bookmark this site for all your Hong Kong research.

You'll also find plenty of good research at the Hong Kong Mini Portal ( http://fita.org/countries/hk.html ), a feature of the FITA Web site. The Hong Kong Mini Portal has an overview of Hong Kong, with facts about the language, currency, climate, etc., plus more specific information about the economy, markets, taxes, labor market indicators, and tips on doing business in Hong Kong.

Click on "Useful Links" and you'll find a variety of sources for market research, trade leads, business directories, logistics, government contacts, travel, financing, and lots more.

The Hong Kong Mini Portal is one of many research gateways at the FITA site. To find Mini Portals for other regions or countries, just click on "Country Profiles" from within a Mini Portal, or at the FITA home page ( http://www.fita.org ).

The National U.S. Hong Kong Business Association, the Hong Kong - China Hawaii Chamber of Commerce, the Hong Kong Association of New York and the Hong Kong Association of Southern Californiaare FITA member associations. Their sites offer more resources about doing business with Hong Kong.

WORLDWIDE TRADE AGREEMENTS HERE
Texts of Most International Trade Agreements

In the last issue I wrote about a site where you could search Asia-Pacific trade agreements. A reader asked if I could find a site with worldwide trade agreements, so I did. Dartmouth College's Tuck Trade Agreements Database ( http://www.dartmouth.edu/~tradedb/ ) is a searchable database of hundreds of trade agreements from around the world. You can search on categories like: Intellectual Property, Foreign Exchange, Labor, Investment, Export Restrictions, Anti- Dumping, and many more. You can download the full text of the agreements, and in many cases there are links to Web sites about these agreements.
