Hello International Traders!

John McDonnell here with more sites to help you achieve success in the international trade arena.

France has one of the world's biggest economies, and it has many trade opportunities. I found a site in this issue that will help you get started in the booming French market. Also, if you do any shipping, I have a site that will help you find the best shipping resources. Do you need to research countries worldwide? I have a site with hundreds of resources for each country. Finally, if you like free software and online services, you'll love the site I feature in this issue.

And don't forget -- if you'd like more information about international trade, go to FITA's Really Useful Links ( http://fita.org/webindex/index.html ), which has a link library of more than 8,000 sites related to international trade.

FRANCE
Our Featured Country

France has a trillion-dollar economy that ranked sixth in the world for imports in 2007, and seventh for exports. It has a robust, modern business sector in which the government is loosening the reins and allowing market mechanisms to drive the economy. There are many opportunities for trade with France, and if you'd like to research some, a good site to visit is Firmafrance ( http://www.firmafrance.com ). This is a French exporters' directory, and it's officially endorsed by the Ministry of the Economy, Finance and Industry of France. FirmaFrance has a database of 15,000 French companies, plus trade show listings, news articles, business offers and requests. You can search for an industry, company, or product, and each company profile has extensive information, including pictures of products, descriptions, phone numbers, addresses, Web site and e-mail addresses, and much more. Firmafrance is free to use, and it's definitely worth a visit if you're interested in trade with France.

You'll also find plenty of good research at the France Mini Portal ( http://fita.org/countries/france.html ), a feature of the FITA Web site. The France Mini Portal has an overview of France, with facts about the language, currency, climate, etc., plus more specific information about the economy, markets, taxes, labor market indicators, and tips on doing business in France.

Click on "Useful Links" and you'll find a variety of sources for market research, trade leads, business directories, logistics, government contacts, travel, financing, and lots more.

The France Mini Portal is one of many research gateways at the FITA site. To find Mini Portals for other regions or countries, just click on "Country Profiles" from within a Mini Portal, or at the FITA home page ( http://www.fita.org ).

The following chapters of the French American Chamber of Commerce are FITA member associations. Their sites offer more resources about doing business with France:

LOTS OF LINKS TO COUNTRY INFO
Country Profiles

If you're looking for information about a country, here's a site where you can find lots of resources in one place. Foreign Information By Country ( http://ucblibraries.colorado.edu/govpubs/for/foreigngovt.htm ), from the University of Colorado at Boulder, is an easy-to-use site with plenty of useful information. From the main page you simply click on the first letter of the country you're interested in, then select the country from the list that appears. In an instant you'll be at a page of links to information about that country. Most countries have a hundred or more links to information, with things like: profiles, statistics, government links, background reports, demographics, useful links, and more. Some links are to commercial databases which require you to register, but most are free.
