FINLAND
Our Featured Country

Finland has a modern, industrialized economy that depends on trade so much that in recent years exports equaled 40 percent of GDP. The country depends on imports for raw materials, energy, and manufacturing components. In the most recent Global Competitiveness Report, Finland was ranked sixth in the world, indicating that it is a very good place to do business. If this sounds like a country you'd like to learn about, go to Contact Finland ( http://www.contactfinland.fi ). This easy-to-use site has plenty of information to get you started researching Finland. Click on "Editorial Section" to get an overview of Finnish life and business culture. The "Business Services" category has links to contact information for Finnish companies in various industries. "Public Sector and other organizations" has links to government agencies and organizations (click on "Trade Promotion Organizations" for links to more useful information about trade with Finland). Finally, "Links" has more resources (click on "Finpro" for a particularly good one).

You'll also find plenty of good research at the Finland Mini Portal (http://fita.org/countries/finland.html ), a feature of the FITA Web site. The Finland Mini Portal has an overview of Finland, with facts about the language, currency, climate, etc., plus more specific information about the economy, markets, taxes, labor market indicators, and tips on doing business in Finland.

Click on "Useful Links" and you'll find a variety of sources for market research, trade leads, business directories, logistics, government contacts, travel, financing, and lots more.

The Finland Mini Portal is one of many research gateways at the FITA site. To find Mini Portals for other regions or countries, just click on "Country Profiles" from within a Mini Portal, or at the FITA home page ( http://www.fita.org ).

RELIABLE, ACCURATE LINKS AT EVERYTHING INTERNATIONAL
Great Links

Web sites created by academics have credibility with me, because they're usually unbiased and have reliable information. When I find a site like this that has been around for a long time it has even more credibility, because I know the site has stood the test of time. Everything International (http://faculty.philau.edu/russowl/russow.html) was created and maintained by Dr. Lloyd C. Russow, of Philadelphia University, and it's been around since 1996. It's a no- frills site that has up-to-date links to international business information. Dr. Russow says on the home page that every hyperlink is verified for accuracy every ten days, so you know there are no broken or dead links. You won't get overwhelmed by the amount of links here, but every one is worth bookmarking for its wealth of information and accuracy. Plus, if you do nothing else, click on the "Village of 1,000" link. It's a fascinating set of statistics that shows what the world would look like if it were a village of 1,000 people.
