Here's your latest issue of Really Useful Sites for the International Trade Professional. This free bi-weekly newsletter reviews useful Web sites from the Web Resources database at FITA's International Trade/ Import-Export Portal at http://fita.org, an excellent source for trade leads, news, events, and a link library of 7,000+ sites related to international trade.

My name is John McDonnell, and for years I've been writing about useful Web sites for businesspeople, in various publications. Now I've focused on international trade, using my Web research skills to find sites that are useful for international businesspeople, and some sites that are just plain fun for anyone.

If you'd like to search back issues of Really Useful Sites for International Trade Professionals, there's a search page at http://fita.org/useful/search.html.

If you have business interests in the Arab world, or simply want to keep up with what's happening in this volatile section of our globe, a good site to visit is Zawya.com. Zawya.com focuses on business news and information, and here you'll find the latest on what's happening in the stock market, the oil & gas industry, and other areas of the Arab world. There are some fee-based services on this site (the ones with a little green key next to them), but there's also a lot of free stuff.

There are lots more links to the Middle East at the FITA site. Go to http://fita.org/webindex/, click on Regional Resources and Multi-Lateral Trading Areas in the left column or "Search by Country or Region" in the right column, then scroll down to "Middle East" in the drop-down box. Or simply type "Middle East" in the search box at http://www.fita.org/.

Mike Paull left Seattle on May 10 for Shanghai, China. Paull's trip ended a week later with an accident that resulted in three broken ribs, a fractured collarbone and internal bleeding. Immediately following the accident, Paull, 48, was taken to the only medical care available - a hospital in Dezhou, China. Not knowing how he was going to get home to the proper medical care he so needed and desired, Paull contacted MedjetAssist.

"I joined MedjetAssist just prior to my trip," said Paull. "Once I contacted them, I was able to rest easier. They took care of everything. They monitored the medical care I was receiving in China, made all of the transportation arrangements and had me back home in Seattle in several days."

MedjetAssist is an annual membership program for U.S-based travelers providing air medical transportation to its members should they become hospitalized due to accident or illness virtually anywhere in the world. The program transports members, free of charge, to the hospital of their choice, most often in medically equipped and staffed jets. Click on www.fita.org/travel/medjetdescript.htm to become a MedjetAssist member now at reduced FITA rates.

If I'm ever in Rio de Janeiro and suddenly have the need to use a public bathroom, I'll head right to Ipanema, where I'll find a facility that has a six-star rating, and is "the best I've ever seen," according to a reviewer (How do they find people for this line of work?) for the Bathroom Diaries at www.bathroomdiaries.com. The Bathroom Diaries has reviews of public bathrooms in cities around the world, and they're surprisingly detailed (covering cost, handicap access, cleanliness, safety, baby changing facilities, etc.). This is an indispensable site for travelers.

I found the Bathroom Diaries through Postal Rates.info at www.postalrates.info, a site that has links to all sorts of useful sites, along with information about postal rates worldwide. There are handy drop-down boxes where you can find postal rates, postal codes, contact information for postal authorities, and philately (stamp collecting) order forms.

In my house, part of the procedure when we buy a new product is to lose the owner's manual. Now I don't have to grind my teeth in frustration when a product breaks and I don't know how to fix it -- I can go to LiveManuals.com. This site allows you to search through thousands of continuously- updated support files for almost any breakable product. You can search by product, manufacturer or category, and you'll find links to the manufacturers' Web sites where you can locate the most reliable information and FAQs as well as contact information for e-mail support, product details, online manuals, warranty information, a list of service centers, and more.
